Consulting/Areas of Interest

Outpatient Total Joint Replacement

  • I am the first surgeon in the area to perform total knee replacements as an outpatient. This means that the patient has a total knee replacement in the morning and goes home to recover that afternoon.
  • I have found that patients recover and sleep better at home. This is a safe option and the patients have done extremely well having their knee replaced as an “outpatient”.
  • I will be performing my first outpatient total hip in the near future as well.

Rapid Recovery

  • Working closely with a team of nurses, physical therapists and good patients, I continue to build a program for patients to get back on their feet and recover rapidly after total hip and knee replacement.
  • I use a balance of medications, ice, elevation and ambulation to help the patients recover quickly and have a great outcome.

Peri-Operative Pain Control

  • This is an area that I have a lot of passion about. Controlling post-operative pain is crucial to a successful outcome after total joint replacement.
  • My approach is to use multi-modal treatment options. These include injections during the surgical procedure as well as IV and oral medications before and after the surgery.
  • My goal in my career is to eventually build a narcotic free total joint program. The use of opiates is excessive and has significant side effects. I try to minimize their use in my patients recovery by utilizing new medications and adjunct treatment options.

THINK Surgical- Robotics

  • Consultant in working to develop and gain FDA approval for a robot used in total hip and total knee replacements
  • I work on the design, development and implementation of the robot for use in the operating rooms. I focus mostly on the surgeon usability, safety and efficiency aspects.
  • FDA studies. I have been a part of getting the FDA approval for the total hip application of the robot and am working with the team on designing and soon to implement the total knee study for the FDA.

Advanced Technologies

  • I am passionate about developing and utilizing technologies that will benefit patients and continue to drive the future of orthopaedics.

Achievements

College Basketball
2000-2002

  • I played for two colleges: Eastfield College in Mesquite, TX and University of St. Mary in Leavenworth, KS.
  • Playing college basketball taught me a lot about the dedication that it takes to reach goals I had set at a young age.

Missionary Service- Milan, Italy
1998-2000

  • I was a missionary for my church in the north-western parts of Italy for two years. While there I became fluent in the Italian language, developed a love for the Italian people, and gained a greater faith.
  • Being a missionary helped me learn about commitment in my religion and in my life.

Eagle Scout
1998-2000

  • As a Boy Scout I passed off requirements to earn merit badges, as I earned the merit badges I would advance in rank, I planned and carried out an eagle project and I eventually reached my goal of Eagle Scout when I was 14.
  • Some examples of merit badges are: Citizenship in the Community, First Aid, Emergency Preparedness, and Riflery.
  • In achieving my Eagle Scout award I was expected to live high standards of honesty and loyalty and was taught responsibility, discipline and the importance of working hard.
